Businesses shut down, streets isolated as South East crisis heightens.
Economic and commercial activities are now on hold in the South-East region of the country.
This is in compliance with the sit-at-home order issued by the group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
IPOB, through its spokesperson, Emma Powerful who stated that human and vehicular movement would be restricted across the South-East on Monday to mark the 54th anniversary of Biafra.
In compliance with this, streets in Owerri, Imo State capital were empty. Businesses, schools,market places, parks and other major economic activities were shut down. Vehicular movements were also grounded.
In Ebonyi state markets and other commercial businesses have been shut down
Security operatives in the state were also observed shooting sporadically at the police command headquarters to scare some suspected hoodlums from attacking.
Motorcycles and cars were being set ablaze while passersby being molested by ‘area boys’.
Enugu state has observed the sit at home directive as the Major Markets, Banks, Parks, Schools in Enugu metropolis has been isolated and abandoned.
Ogbete main market, New market, Kenyeta market, Gariki were deserted. Schools, Parks like Onitsha South mass transit, GOU, Young, Ifesinachi, Royal mass transit, Banks, and shopping malls like Shoprite visited were deserted and under lock and key.
At Okpara Avenue, Abakaliki Road, New Layout, Ogbete market, Agbani, Abakpa, and other major towns and areas in the state, everywhere looked deserted, as people were not seen moving in pairs while commercial buses and tricycle riders were nowhere to be seen.
