Amazon; Google, Others Reacts Over Trump’s Ban Of H1B Visa
Several Global Tech Industries in the US have opposed to the suspension of the H1B visa announced by President Trump.
The US H1B visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows US companies to employ graduates or experience level workers in specialty occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise in specialized fields such as in IT, finance, accounting, architecture, engineering, medicine etc from abroad.
The President of the United States on Monday 22 June, halted the issuing of H1B visas. He said his action was intended to create more jobs for the American citizens in this global crisis season due to the pandemic.
However, the major tech industries such as Facebook, Google, Amazon, Twitter, Alphabet and Box that thrives on the input of foreign experts have condemned the wisdom saying that the action was hazardous and will only put the economy of the Nation into further peril.
Amazon responded to the ban by saying, “Preventing high skilled professionals from entering the country and contributing to America’s economic recovery puts America’s global competitiveness at risk”.
Box Founder, Aaron Levie said that the suspension was indeed a bad resolution and will only move jobs out of the US which will only take the nation backwards in its first class economy.
About 85,000 H1B visas are issued yearly with India as the highest client. Facebook, Twitter, Apple and Google are high beneficiaries of Indian’s talent and are not in any favor of the motion as experts who returned to their countries during the hit of the pandemic will not be allowed to come back until the ban is lifted, but those still in the United States are not in anyway prohibited from rendering their services.
