Amy Coney Barrett Confirmed to US Supreme Court

The Republican-controlled Senate has confirmed Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court of the US.

Monday night’s vote in the upper house of Congress secured President Donald Trump’s nominee to the apex court a week before election day.

The Senate voted 52-48 to confirm Judge Barrett to a lifetime post , overcoming unified Democratic opposition. Only one Republican, Suzan Collins of Maine, crossed party lines to side with the Democrats.

The confirmation of the forty-eight-year-old federal appeals court judge from Indiana also fills the vacancy left by liberal icon, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died last month, and creates a 6-3 conservative majority in the Supreme Court.

Judge Barrett was sworn in at the White House immediately after the confirmation.
