Babajide Sanwo-Olu Visits Buhari, Presents On Extent Of Destruction In Lagos

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday, met with President Muhammadu Buhari to present a report on the extent of destruction in the state.

In the report were the images of public and private assets destroyed in the violence that erupted in the state following #EndSARS protest.

The Presidency made this known in a tweet on Friday evening, saying;

“President Muhammadu Buhari this afternoon met with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos. The Governor presented a report on the extent of the destruction suffered by Lagos State in the aftermath of the ENDSARS protests.”

It would be recalled that several buildings in Lagos State including police stations, malls and transport stations were vandalised, looted and razed by hoodlums following the shooting of peaceful #EndSARS protesters by security forces at the Lekki tollgate on October 20.

Subsequently, some ministers and South West governors paid a condolence visit to the Governor and they were all taken on a tour of the vandalised areas.

Speaking after the tour, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, said Sanwo-Olu told him the state would need N1trn to rebuild the state.

On its part, Lagos Chamber of Commerce in a statement declared that estimated economic losses during and after the #EndSARS protests were at N700 billion.

This led to the establishment of Lagos State Rebuilding Trust Fund and the set up an eight-man committee by Governor Sanwo-Olu to coordinate efforts to restore lost assets.

He said the trust fund would look into rebuilding the state after suspected hoodlums destroyed public and private facilities in the state.
