BREAKING: Ex-NIMASA Director Sentenced to 7 years Jail for N1.5bn Fraud
Captain Ezekiel Bala Agaba, a former Executive Director of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has been convicted and sentenced to 7 year jail after being found guilty of fraud by a Federal High Court in Lagos.
The verdict was handed down by Justice Ibrahim Buba on Wednesday July 15. He held that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) proved the charges against Agaba beyond reasonable doubts.
Recall that Agaba was arraigned in December 2015 alongside a former Director-General of NIMASA, Patrick Akpolobokemi, and two others for using two firms to draw out about N2.6bn meant for the implementation of International Ship and Port Security (ISPS) code at NIMASA.
EFCC disclosed that the ISPS Code is to enable NIMASA to carry out security checks on vessels coming into the country.
However, the Court of Appeal has since discharged Akpobolokemi while the EFCC withdrew charges against the two other defendants, leaving only Agaba.
