According to the Nigerian Army, troops operating under the command of Operation Hadarin Daji, supported by the Nigerian Air Force rescued one teacher and three students of the Federal Government College, Birnin Yawuri in Kebbi State.
The troops were said to have been deployed to dominate the forest and deny the bandits freedom of operation.
Over 80 students, who are mostly girls and teachers of the school, were abducted by armed bandits last week.
The army on Friday had reported that one of the students died of exhaustion during a rescue operation as troops of Operation Hadarin Daji engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel, which resulted in the rescue of five students and two teachers of the college.
In a statement issued on Sunday 20th June 2021, the Army Spokesman, Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu, said one teacher and three more students were rescued this weekend.
“Troops of the Nigerian Army operating under the command of Operation Hadarin Daji supported by Nigerian Air Force have rescued more abductees of the FGC Birnin Yawuri.
“One teacher and three students were rescued yesterday at Makuku, in the ongoing search and rescue operations”.
“troops also killed one bandit and recovered nine motorcycles and four handsets from the fleeing bandits”
“additional troops have also been deployed to dominate the forest and deny the bandits freedom of action”, He said.
