Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has been named among the final five nominees for the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) unveiled the shortlist on Thursday night, December 12, highlighting Lookman’s exceptional performances over the past year. He will compete against Simon Adingra, Serhou Guirassy, Achraf Hakimi, and Ronwen Williams for the prestigious accolade.

Lookman, 27, is aiming to follow in the footsteps of his Super Eagles teammate, Victor Osimhen, who claimed the title last year.

The talented forward showcased his prowess at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, scoring three goals and providing one assist in seven appearances for the Nigerian national team. He also made history by netting a hat-trick for Atalanta in the UEFA Europa League final.

This season, Lookman has been in remarkable form for Atalanta under manager Gian Piero Gasperini, with 11 goals and five assists in 18 matches across all competitions. He also earned the Man of the Match award in a Champions League clash against Real Madrid, contributing significantly to his team’s push for the Serie A title.

The 2024 CAF Awards ceremony will take place on Monday, December 16, in Marrakech, Morocco, where the winner will be announced.
