CNN’s Veteran Journalist Christiane Amanpour diagnosed with ovarian cancer
Veteran CNN journalist Christiane Amanpour has revealed to viewers that she had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She added that she wanted to
“persuade women to educate themselves about the disease” and “to undergo regular examinations”.
“I underwent successful major surgery to remove cancer, and now I’m undergoing several months of chemotherapy to get the best possible long-term prognosis, and I am confident,” CNN presenter Christiane Amanpour said at the beginning of her TV show.
63-year-old Amanpour is one of the most famous journalists in the world. Due to her diagnosis, she has not appeared on television for the past four weeks.
In her speech on-air, Amanpour pointed out that ovarian cancer is too common and affects “millions of women around the world”. She added that she felt “happy to have health insurance through work and the amazing doctors who treat her in a country supported, of course, by the brilliant NHS,” referring to the UK’s National Health Service.
After talking about her surgery and chemotherapy, Amanpour said,
“I say this for the sake of clarity, but really mainly as a call for early diagnosis.” She stated that she wanted to “get women to educate themselves about the disease; to undergo all the regular examinations and scans they can; to listen to their own body; and, of course, to make sure that your legitimate medical concerns are not dismissed or minimized. “.
She first became known to the CNN audience internationally for her coverage of the 1991 Gulf War that followed Iraq’s 1990 invasion of Kuwait.
She has interviewed many of the world’s leaders and newsmakers over the past two decades and reported from hotspots such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, Rwanda and the Balkans.
