In observance of World Suicide Prevention Day, comedienne Anita Afoke Asuoha, popularly known as Warri Pikin, has shared a personal and heartbreaking story of how she attempted to take her own life in 2018. According to Warri Pikin, her husband’s financial struggles, which were exacerbated by a motivational speaker’s advice, led to a massive debt of N22 million.

In a post on her Instagram page, Warri Pikin revealed that the burden of their financial situation became too much to bear, and she felt like ending her life was the only way to escape the pain. She wrote, “I tried suicide so you don’t have to… in 2018, June 6, 3 pm to be precise, I attempted suicide. I gave up on life because the burden was too much.”

However, Warri Pikin’s life was saved by a woman named Irene C. Anaenye, who intervened at Garki Hospital. Warri Pikin shared photos of Irene and expressed her gratitude for her help.

Warri Pikin used her experience to advise others who may be struggling with suicidal thoughts, reminding them that suicide is not the answer and that troubles are only temporary. She wrote, “Suicide is making a permanent decision to a temporary problem.” She encouraged those struggling to seek help and support, rather than resorting to suicide.
