A Federal High Court in Lagos has dismissed a fundamental rights lawsuit filed by Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, popularly known as Bobrisky, against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Bobrisky had sought ₦200 million in damages from the EFCC for alleged “psychotic trauma” and ₦1 billion from the National Assembly for what he claimed was a “violation of his right to a fair hearing.” He also asked the court to restrain both entities from “harassing, detaining, or declaring him wanted.”

Delivering the judgment on Thursday, November 28, Justice Alexander Owoeye ruled that Bobrisky’s claims were baseless and lacked credible evidence to support allegations of rights violations.

“Having evaluated the evidence placed before this Court by the Applicant, it is evident that the Applicant has failed to provide credible evidence to justify the award of the declaratory and injunctive reliefs sought by him,” the judge stated.

Justice Owoeye concluded that the claims of fundamental rights violations against the EFCC and the National Assembly were unsubstantiated. “The Applicant’s claims against the 1st and 2nd Respondents lack merit and are accordingly dismissed,” he declared.

The court also declined to award damages against the EFCC.

This ruling reaffirms the need for solid evidence in cases involving claims of rights violations, underscoring the court’s commitment to ensuring due process and adherence to the rule of law.
