The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, December 25, Thursday, December 26, 2024, and Wednesday, January 1, 2025, as public holidays to mark Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year celebrations respectively.

The announcement was made on Monday, December 23, in Abuja by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

In the statement, Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended warm greetings to Nigerians and encouraged citizens to use the festive season to reflect on the values of love, peace, and unity. He emphasized the importance of fostering harmony and strengthening family and community bonds during this period.

“The Christmas season is a good moment for both spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us demonstrate kindness and extend goodwill to one another, irrespective of our differences,” the Minister said.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo also called on Nigerians to remain dedicated to the nation’s peace, unity, and progress, which he described as critical for national development.

He assured citizens of the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring peace, security, and prosperity across the country.

“While wishing Nigerians a merry Christmas and a prosperous 2025, the Minister expressed confidence in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu’s administration. He highlighted the administration’s focus on delivering a better and more prosperous economy in the coming year,” the statement concluded.
