Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has taken swift action to address the case of a young man reportedly sentenced to death by hanging for allegedly stealing a fowl.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Tuesday, December 17, Governor Adeleke instructed the Attorney General of Osun State to investigate the matter thoroughly and initiate the process for a prerogative of mercy to ensure fairness and justice.

The statement read:
*”I have received the report of a young man reportedly sentenced to death by hanging in Osun State for stealing a fowl. Consequently, I have directed the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice to commence a full investigation into the matter and take steps to include the young man in the prerogative of mercy before the year ends.

“Osun State stands for justice and equity, and we must uphold fairness while protecting the sanctity of human life. This matter is receiving my direct attention, and we are treating it with the utmost urgency.”*

The young man’s parents, during an interview with actress Biola Adebayo, tearfully narrated their ordeal. They claimed their son, a medical student, was falsely accused of theft and unjustly sentenced to death.

Governor Adeleke’s intervention has sparked hope for a resolution that upholds justice and compassion in the state.
