House Of Reps Orders NCC To Extend Deadline For Blocking SIMS Without NIN

Following the recent order by Federal Government of Nigeria to all telecommunications operators in the country to block all Subscriber Identification Modules (SIMs) without National Identification Number (NIN), the House of Representatives have ordered the NCC to extend the 2 weeks deadline given to SIM card owners to submit their NIN to network providers.

Members of the House of Reps at the plenary on Wednesday, described the sudden 2 weekes ultimatum to SIM card users by the NCC to provide their NIN to service providers as highly inadequate.

Butressing the motion, the House Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu argued that the period of time was too short for 200million Nigerians to conclude the process.

The house adjudged that the excercise should come to an end on January 28 2021 as against the previous December 30 deadline.
