The Nigerian Military reports that a Major General identified as Olu Irefin, has died from COVID-19 complications in the Federal Capital Territory.
The deceased was a participant at the Nigerian Army’s 2020 COAS Annual Conference in Abuja during which he fell ill and later tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday evening, a situation which led to the suspension of the COAS Annual Conference as all participants were required to go on self isolation to curb a possible spread of the virus.
General Irefin was reported dead in the early hours of Thursday while receiving treatment at the hospital.
Before his demise, G. Irefin was the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Port Harcourt in Rivers State.
Until his appointment in July 2020 as the GOC in Port Harcourt, the deceased was the GOC 81 Division Nigerian Army in Lagos.
