The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially postponed its planned nationwide voter revalidation exercise, shifting it to a date after the 2027 general elections.

The decision was reached following a high-level meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) held on Friday, April 10.

In a statement released by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the commission confirmed that the exercise will no longer take place before the upcoming elections.

While INEC did not provide extensive details on the reason for the delay, the move signals a shift in the commission’s immediate priorities as preparations gradually build toward the 2027 polls.
