Is Shekau Really Dead? Uncertainty trail new report of death of Boko-Haram Faction Leader

The reported clash between the two top terrorist group in Nigeria, ISWAP and Boko Haram where the former was said to have overpowered and defeated the Boko Haram insurgent group haven possessing more sophisticated weaponry is said to have led to the death of Abubakar Shekau, otherwise known as Jama’at Ahl as-Sunnah Lid Da’wah Wa’l- Jihad (JAS), the leader of the Boko Haram sect.

 

ISWAP fighters was said to have invaded the Boko Haram hide-out in Sambisa Forest with heavy truck guns and dealt a decisive blow on their rivals during the confrontations.

 

It was also revealed that Shekau was not actually or directly killed by ISWAP, but blew himself up and committed suicide when ISWAP attempted to capture him (Shekau) alive, during a gun duel.

 

However, no official statement or confirmation of Shekau’s death has been made by Nigerian security forces.

 

In a swift reaction to the developing story, Nigerians are seen celebrating the death of Shekau on various social media platforms despite the uncertainties as this is neither the first nor second time the most wanted terrorist leader has been declared dead and defeated.

 

A security report obtained after the attack stated, “Unconfirmed source reported that the leader of JAS Abubakar shekau was dethroned and killed by ISWAP and they have taken over the entire sambisa forest.

“With these development ISWAP are more equipped and funded than JAS. So their mode of operation will change, and there is likely going to experience frequent attacks around Konduga, Bama, Gwoza, Biu LGA’S and part of Adamawa.

“All humanitarians around the axis should be security conscious and be very vigilant.”
