Israeli Ambassador Claims Iran Drives Terrorism and Instability in Nigeria and Beyond

Israel’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, has stated that Iran is a significant force behind terrorism and instability globally, suggesting that peace in the Middle East and parts of Africa may remain elusive unless there is a change in Iran’s leadership.

Speaking at a screening of *We Will Dance Again*, a documentary directed by Yariv Mozer, Freeman commemorated the first anniversary of an Oct. 7 attack and addressed Iran’s alleged role in regional conflicts. “The root of this war and ongoing instability is Iran,” he remarked. Freeman detailed Iran’s support for groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis, saying it finances and supplies them with resources to destabilize the Middle East. He further asserted that Iran’s influence extends into Africa, aiming to disrupt stability in regions including Nigeria.

Freeman called on the international community to confront Iran’s leadership, asserting, “The sooner the world addresses Iran’s leadership and initiates change, the sooner global peace can be achieved.”

The ambassador also stressed the broader impact of terrorism, noting its reach into Nigeria. “We’ve seen radical terrorism here in Nigeria as well, akin to what Israel faces,” Freeman said. He emphasized the need for global cooperation, sharing knowledge and resources to address terrorism collectively.

He also recounted tragic details from the Oct. 7 attack, underscoring the urgency of global unity against such violence. Freeman highlighted that the ideology of groups like Hamas, which he described as fundamentally opposed to peace, remains a barrier to stability. He cited Israel’s 2005 Gaza withdrawal as an effort to support Palestinian self-governance, which he says was undermined by Hamas’s control since 2007, redirecting aid towards militarization rather than development.

Freeman concluded by emphasizing the need to address the root causes of these conflicts to prevent further loss of innocent lives and pave the way for lasting peace.
