Just In: Ex-Chief of Defense Staff, Gen. Joshua Dognoyaro is Dead

The former Chief of Defence Staff to late Gen. Sani Abacha, Lt-Gen. Joshua Dogonyaro has passed on.

According to reports, the octagenarian died in Jos on Thursday morning after a brief illness.

 

A family source disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a telephone interview in Pankshin on Thursday.

 

“Daddy has been sick for some time until yesterday when he had a stroke and we rushed him to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for medical attention.

 

“Unfortunately, early this morning (Thursday), around 3.00 am precise, he breathed his last. “His death comes as a rude shock to us as a family. We are going to miss his love and warmth as a grandfather, father, brother, uncle and supporter,” he said.

According to him, the family was trying to cope with the shock of the general’s demise and would discuss the funeral arrangements soon.

He described the late General as “one who was so faithful and loyal to the nation, Nigeria.”

 

A former Governor of Plateau State, Fidelis Tapgun described the death of the former Chief of Defence Staff as sad and a great loss to the people of the state and Nigeria in general.

 

Tapgun who recalled his days in the military said, “I just heard of his death and it is very sad. His death is indeed a big loss not only to the people of Plateau State but to Nigerians and the military in particular because whatever history is going to be written, the military is going to take a large chapter and he is one of those whose name will be mentioned severally on every chapter because of the great roles he played for the sake of the country.
