Juventus have sacked head coach Maurizio Sarri just a day after their their match with Lyon which knocked them out of the Champions League.
The Ex-Chelsea boss, 61, took over Juventus in June last year, signing a three-year contract and helping the club to win their ninth consecutive Serie A title last month.
However, yesterday Friday, August 7, Juventus suffered a round-of-16 exit to the French club, Lyon despite a 2-1 win, losing on the away goals after the tie ended 2-2 on aggregate, making it the first time Juventus have failed to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League since 2015/16 under Massimiliano Allegri.
On Saturday, August 8, a Juventus statement said: “Juventus Football Club announces that Maurizio Sarri has been relieved of his post as coach of the First Team.
“The club would like to thank the coach for having written a new page in Juventus’ history with the victory of the ninth-consecutive championship, the culmination of a personal journey that led him to climb all the divisions of Italian football.”
Sarri goes with a record of 34 wins, eight draws, and nine defeats in 51 matches. Their tally of 83 points in Serie A this season was the lowest of their nine-season run of titles. The club also lost the Italian Supercup to Lazio and the Coppa Italia final to Napoli.
