Lagos State House of Assembly Calls on FG To End SARS

The Lagos state House of Assembly, has called on the federal government to scrap the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, of the Nigerian police force.

 

This decision was reached on Friday, October 9, after an emergency plenary session by the house.

 

The emergency plenary session was fixed by Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the House of Assembly, after protesters blockade the entrance to the Assembly complex on the night of Thursday, October 8th.

 

Nollywood actor and member of the Lagos state house of assembly, Desmond Eliot, spoke up during the session statung that it is necessary to listen to the demands of the people.

 

He said,

 

“It has gone beyond calling hotlines. It has gone beyond reforms. The National Assembly really needs to look into it. The IG of Police must seriously consider.

 

“If the unit we set up is not working for the people, and the people are calling for it to be disbanded, then let us do what they’re saying.”
