Marcus Rashford has fueled speculation about a possible departure from Manchester United, hinting he is “ready for a new challenge.”
The forward’s comments come in the wake of his omission from manager Ruben Amorim’s squad for Sunday’s 2-1 derby victory against Manchester City. Both Rashford and teammate Alejandro Garnacho were left out due to unsatisfactory training performances and off-field concerns.
Reflecting on the decision, the 27-year-old acknowledged the setback but suggested it may be time to move on. Speaking at a school event in Manchester, Rashford shared:
“For me personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps. When I leave, it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings.’ I don’t want to leave on bad terms or create drama.”
Rashford’s struggles with form and disciplinary issues, including missed training sessions and team meetings, have drawn criticism over the past year. Despite Amorim offering him a “clean slate,” Rashford’s remarks suggest he is considering life beyond Old Trafford, where he debuted nearly nine years ago.
Having signed a £325,000-a-week contract extension in July 2023, Rashford’s potential exit could require a significant transfer fee. While interest from top European clubs appears limited, the Saudi Pro League has emerged as a possible destination.
Addressing fan criticism, Rashford said:
“I do feel misunderstood, but I’m fine with it. Football has been my life from the beginning. I’ve learned a lot over nine years here, but I have my own dreams, and I’m not where I want to be yet.”
As Manchester United continues to rebuild under Amorim, Rashford’s future remains uncertain. The team is set to face Tottenham in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals on Thursday, though Rashford’s role in the squad remains unclear.
