The Plateau State Government has given looters 48 hours to return stolen COVID-19 palliatives in their possession or risk being arrested.
Recall that on Saturday, the COVID-19 palliatives stored in a warehouse in Bukuru community of Jos South Local Government Area of the state was looted.
However, State Police Command on Monday described the act as stealing and demand that the looters return the stolen palliatives before Wednesday.
The statement by the acting Spokesman of the State Police Command, Donbey Peter’s, partly read, “Sequel to the ugly occurrences that bedevilled some parts of the state particularly Jos North and Jos South LGAs, the Commissioner of Police Plateau State Command, CP Edward Egbuka, has condemned in totality the breaking and looting into government warehouses, shops and private houses of individuals by hoodlums and other criminals within Jos and Bukuru metropolis under the guise of #EndSARS protests.”
“He described it as an act of criminality aimed at truncating the tireless efforts of the police and other security agencies on the Plateau. This has led to the arrest of over a hundred persons.
“The Government of Plateau State is giving these looters the grace to return immediately, every looted item to the nearest local government office not later than Wednesday 28/10/2020. Anyone found in possession of any looted item after this date will be arrested and brought to book.”
Meanwhile, Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, has also given hoodlums, who looted government and private assets in the state 72 hours to return the looted items or face the wrath of the law.
He called on the hoodlums to surrender all the stolen items to security agents, traditional rulers, local government chairmen and community leaders in their respective domains.
He said, “What I witnessed is not actually a question of hoodlums, but armed robbers. They have actually removed all the machines that are here.
“It is very unfortunate. What I have seen here is massive looting, armed robbery and stealing of the highest order.
“I can say categorically that #EndSARS protest is not what we are seeing here today. This is pure looting and it is all over.
“As a government, we will look at the possible ways of bringing the victims back to life through our efforts and the intervention of the Federal Government.
He said those who refused to honour the ultimatum would be tracked and brought to justice, while those who embraced it would be forgiven.
