The Chief of Staff of President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo DRC, Vital Kamerhe on Saturday being June 20 has been sentenced 20 years in prison with hard labor over peculation of national funds in the Nation’s Capital City Kinshasa.
The said funds as declared by the ruling judge, Pierrot Bankenge Mvita is $48,831,148, and was budgeted for a housing project heralded by the President on his appointment into office in January 2019.
The chief of Staff maintains that he is innocent of the charges against him and that the plot was targeted to ruin his political ambition to contest for Presidency in 2023. His lawyer, Jean Marie, called the verdict a violation of human right as hard labor is forbidden in the constitution of the DRC, and have said to appeal.
The sentence also bans Kamerhe from contesting for Presidency another 10 years after his 20 year prison term.
