Following an attack on the Correctional Facility in Jos the Plateau State Capital, six bodies have been recovered by officials of the Nigeria Correctional Center.
At about 05:20pm hours on Sunday 28th November 2021, the Facility came under attack by yet to be identified gunmen who stormed the Center in large numbers with sophisticated weapons.
It is not clear if the bodies are those of the gunmen who attacked the facility or inmates who attempted to escape.
Information gathered, stated that, one NCC officer was killed and another shot in the arm when the attackers arrived at the Correctional Facility on Sunday and immediately made for the main gate where they engaged the armed squad personnel in a gun battle before breaking into the yard.
The front office holding the records of the NCC was set ablaze by the invaders.
Officials of Jos Prisons are still trying to ascertain the extent of damage to the facility and are taking head counts of the inmates to identify the bodies.
