Sowore shot by the police at Protest in Abuja.
Publisher of online news medium, SaharaReporters and human right activist, Omoyele Sowore, has been injured by a tear gas canister fired by a police operative in Abuja.
Sowore was reportedly shot on Monday by a female police officer at the Unity Fountain in Abuja.
Sowore arrived at the Unity fountain few with other protesters but they were locked out by armed policemen who had cordoned off the area.
Meanwhile, a group of protesters led by Jaye Gaskia were already inside the arena.
It was learnt that the police locked the main gate as soon as they saw Sowore and his group, denying them access.
The activist, while making enquiry from the police on why he was locked out, was told that they received the order from the Commisioner of Police.
The activist rapidly called the Commissioner of Police but he denied giving such an order.
It was at this point the female officer mobilised some officers and drove close to Sowore and his group, before shooting at him.
Sowore, who was holding an iron net put around the fountain groaned in pain.
However, The Socio – Economic Right Activist condemned report that Sowore was shot by the police during the peaceful protest at Unity Fountain.
The Police say there was no record of such incidents at the protest.
