Ten Indian Soldiers Released From Chinese Detention Several Days After Deadly Border Clash.
China has freed 10 Indian soldiers that were detained in the high-altitude border clash with Chinese troops along the de facto border in the Himalayas which left at least 20 Indian soldiers dead.
Report says the release came after several rounds of talks between the Indian army and China’s People’s Liberation Army, in order to ease the heightened tensions from the violent face-off which happened on Monday.
The Press Trust of India news agency reported that the 10 soldiers were freed late on Thursday.
The Indian military said 18 troops were still being treated for serious injuries obtained while China has admitted that it suffered casualties though figures were not given.
In at least two different cities in India, Chinese flags and posters of China’s President Xi Jinping were burnt while calls for a boycott of Chinese goods is ongoing.
After series of political and military talks between China’s foreign minister Wang Yi and his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the two sides warned each other in public statement.
China said, “India should “not underestimate China’s firm will to safeguard its territorial sovereignty,”
Jaishankar said in turn that China had launched a “pre-meditated” attack which would have a “serious impact” on relations between the world’s two most populous countries.
