The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has given the green light for the construction of 40 houses in Abuja specifically for judges in the country. Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, made the announcement after a FEC meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu on Monday, September 23 ¹.
According to Wike, the residences will be built in the Katampe district, with a clear allocation plan in place:
– *FCT High Court*: 20 houses
– *Federal High Court*: 10 houses
– *Court of Appeal*: 10 houses
President Tinubu emphasized the importance of providing safe and convenient housing for judicial officials, considering the critical nature of their work. The project is expected to be completed within 15 months.
This move aims to address the current challenge of judges and justices living in rented houses and hotels, which poses safety concerns and hinder their ability to perform their duties effectively.
