The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revoked the allocation of 762 plots of land in Abuja. High-profile individuals, including former President Muhammadu Buhari, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and former Chief Justice of Nigeria Walter Onnoghen, are among those affected.
The revocation was attributed to the failure of allottees to pay for their Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) within the stipulated period. The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) also warned that the Rights of Occupancy (R-of-O) of an additional 614 individuals and companies would be revoked if outstanding payments were not settled within two weeks.
Other notable individuals impacted include:
- Former governors such as Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Ben Ayade (Cross River), Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa), and Ahmad Sani (Zamfara).
- Current and former lawmakers, including Enyinnaya Abaribe, Dino Melaye, Shehu Sani, Tahir Monguno, and Nicholas Mutu.
- Former Deputy Speaker Chibudom Nwuche and former Senate Leader Teslim Folarin.
- Former ministers Sam Egwu and Stella Oduah.
The FCTA cited Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978, which allows authorities to revoke statutory rights of occupancy in cases of:
- Breach of provisions outlined in the Certificate of Occupancy.
- Non-payment of statutory fees, deemed a violation of the terms of land allocation.
The notice emphasized that allottees in the Maitama 1 District must pay their outstanding C-of-O bills within two weeks or face revocation of their R-of-O titles.
This development underscores Minister Wike’s commitment to enforcing compliance with land use regulations and addressing irregularities in land allocations within the FCT. Affected parties now face the urgent task of settling their dues to retain their plots.
