Nigeria Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama has summoned the Chargé d’Affaires of Ghana to Nigeria, Ms Iva Denoo to protest the recent forceful closure of the shops of Nigerian traders in Ghana and demand an urgent resolution.
This urgent meeting came after it was reported that shops belonging to Nigerian traders in Accra were locked up by Ghanaian authorities who demanded cash payment of $1million from them before the shops would be opened.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that an inter-ministerial task force went round on August 10 to identify shops owned by Nigerian traders and requested for registration of business taxes, resident permit, standard control and Ghana Investment Promotion Council (GIPC) registration.
