The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has been suspended by the Buhari administration amidst allegations of gross misconduct.

Magu was served an invitation on Monday by the Department of State Services to face the presidential panel investigating corruption allegations against him.

After he was quizzed for about six hours by the Presidential panel, chaired by a former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami, he was detained at the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCID) Headquarters, in Area 10, Garki Abuja, on Monday night on the orders of the committee that also questioned him on Tuesday morning.

However, a source in the Presidency allegedly confirmed to Sahara Reporters that Magu has now been suspended pending when a decision will be taken on him.

The suspension was also confirmed by top officials at the presidency who spoke under anonymity because the matter was still developing and the memo conveying it was yet to be circulated to Mr Magu and other concerned parties. They added the next most-senior EFCC official next to Mr Magu was asked to take charge.
