Could Covid-19 And The Lockdown Policy Have Impacted Our Planet Positively?

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) of the United States of America, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has joined forces in the launching of a covid-19 Earth Observation Dashboard, a web-based collection of satellite data from all three agencies observing the impart of the pandemic on our planet.

The whole idea is to observe from space the shape or condition of the earth in response to the modified human activities during the pandemic, and the consequent impact of such modifications on a short term or long term basis.

The project took shape in April as the three agencies formed a task force to identify the most relevant satellite data, select areas of interest and develop ways to effectively share data.

The improved air quality around the world has been observed as one of the impart of the pandemic-instigated lockdown exercise which resulted in less industrial activities and mobile movements. The water quality around the world is also observed to have been improved as well as economic and agricultural activities.

The agencies will continue to add data to the dashboard as new observations are sent in from the satellite and other observation instrument.
