Germany has appealed to its citizen to download a new smartphone app to help break the chain of coronavirus infections, one of several such apps that EU governments hope will revive travel and tourism safely in the continent.

Germany is the 4th country to join the list of launching a COVID-19 app along with other countries such as Poland, Italy and Latvia respectively.

The app which is called, “The Corona-Warn-App” is now available on Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The app uses Bluetooth and short-range radio to measure close contacts within people and issues a warning should one later test positive for COVID-19.

Germany Health Minister, Jens Spahn addressed the public at the launch today saying, “This app isn’t a cure-all. It’s not a free pass, but it’s an important addition too for containing the pandemic”.
