John Prescott, Britain’s former Deputy Prime Minister, has died at the age of 86, his family announced on Thursday.
In a heartfelt statement shared with the media, the family revealed Prescott passed away on Wednesday, surrounded by loved ones and the jazz music of Marian Montgomery.
“We are deeply saddened to inform you that our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, John Prescott, passed away yesterday at the age of 86,” the family said, according to AFP.
Prescott, who served as a Member of Parliament for Hull for four decades, was a former merchant seaman and a staunch trade union advocate. He played a pivotal role alongside Tony Blair in modernizing the Labour Party, contributing to its electoral successes in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Known for his passion for social justice and his no-nonsense approach to politics, Prescott leaves behind a legacy of dedication to public service.
