President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Pete Hegseth as the United States Secretary of Defense. Trump nominated the 44-year-old Fox News host, known for his outspoken support of the military, to lead the Department of Defense. Announcing the appointment, Trump said, “With Pete at the helm, America’s enemies are on notice – our military will be great again, and America will never back down. Nobody fights harder for the troops, and Pete will be a courageous and patriotic champion of our ‘peace through strength’ policy.”
If confirmed, Hegseth will oversee the world’s largest military, managing a budget of $800 billion. However, his lack of government experience has sparked mixed reactions. Critics have been quick to respond, with one veterans’ advocate calling him “undoubtedly the least qualified nominee for Defense Secretary in history.”
The appointment has drawn condemnation from Trump’s opponents in Washington, while reactions among Republican lawmakers remain varied. Some have expressed quiet support, while others have hesitated to comment publicly on Hegseth’s qualifications for the role.
