Adeboye is Building Business Centers, Not Religious Institutions” – Femi Falana Claims
Renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana has sparked controversy with his recent remarks about Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). Falana accused the influential cleric of prioritizing the establishment of profit-oriented business ventures over religious institutions.
Speaking during a public forum on Wednesday, Falana expressed concerns about what he described as a growing trend of churches in Nigeria operating as commercial enterprises under the guise of religion. He specifically called out Pastor Adeboye, suggesting that RCCG’s numerous projects are more aligned with business interests than spiritual edification.
“Many of these so-called religious organizations are no longer about the salvation of souls but about building empires,” Falana said. “Pastor Adeboye, for instance, is not just building churches; he’s building business centers.”
The legal luminary criticized the commercialization of religion in Nigeria, arguing that it exploits the faith of ordinary Nigerians while amassing wealth for church leaders. He urged religious leaders to refocus on spiritual guidance and community development rather than profit-driven ventures.
Falana’s comments have stirred debate across social media, with some supporting his stance and others defending Pastor Adeboye’s contributions to national development. The RCCG has not issued an official response to the allegations.
As the conversation unfolds, Falana’s remarks have reignited discussions about the role of religious institutions in addressing socio-economic challenges in Nigeria.
