German President Steinmeier Arrives in Nigeria for State Visit

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrived in Nigeria on Tuesday night, December 10, 2024, for a state visit set to conclude on December 12.

Upon arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Steinmeier was greeted by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. The visit underscores the strong ties between Germany and Nigeria, with Steinmeier scheduled to engage in high-level discussions with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Alieu Omar Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission.

The itinerary highlights a visit to Lagos, where Steinmeier will meet with business leaders, tour a start-up hub, and connect with cultural and civil society figures, including renowned artist Dr. Nike Okundaye and Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka.

Steinmeier will also explore Lagos’ urban development, delving into the megacity’s environmental and social challenges. The visit aims to deepen bilateral relations and foster collaboration on shared goals between Germany and Nigeria.
