Formula One icon Michael Schumacher is set to embrace a new milestone—grandfatherhood. His daughter, Gina Schumacher-Bethke, recently announced her pregnancy, just months after her wedding to Iain Bethke.
The news comes after Schumacher reportedly made his first “public appearance” in 11 years at Gina’s wedding in September. On Monday, December 23, Gina shared the joyous update on Instagram, revealing she and her husband are expecting a baby girl.
“Impatiently awaiting the arrival of our little girl,” wrote Gina, an accomplished equestrian champion, in her heartwarming post.
Michael Schumacher, widely regarded as one of the greatest drivers in motorsport history, shares the record for seven Formula One World Drivers’ Championships with Sir Lewis Hamilton. Beginning his career in 1991, Schumacher retired in 2006 but returned to the track in 2010 for three seasons with Mercedes before retiring for good.
The German racing legend married Corinna Schumacher in 1995, and the couple has two children: Gina and Mick Schumacher. Mick followed in his father’s footsteps, racing in Formula One for Haas from 2021 to 2022.
Since a devastating skiing accident in 2013 left Schumacher with a life-altering brain injury, the 55-year-old has lived a private life. Only a close circle of family members and medical staff have access to him, and details of his condition remain undisclosed.
The Schumacher family is also currently embroiled in a legal battle after allegations surfaced that Markus Fritsche, the former bodyguard of the Ferrari legend, attempted to blackmail the family by threatening to leak unauthorized photos of Schumacher in exchange for £12 million.
As the family prepares for the arrival of their newest member, Gina’s announcement has brought a moment of joy and celebration to the Schumacher legacy.
