Nigerian Striker Gift Orban Joins Hoffenheim from Lyon

Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim have officially signed Nigerian forward Gift Orban from French side Olympique Lyon in a deal worth €9 million, with an additional €3 million in potential add-ons.

The 22-year-old, who had struggled for game time at Lyon, made the move after a challenging spell at the French club, where he scored five goals in 21 appearances. Orban, who joined Lyon from Belgian outfit Gent a year ago, had not featured in Ligue 1 since September, prompting the transfer.

“We wish Gift well in his new adventure,” Lyon said in a farewell statement.

Hoffenheim’s sporting director, Andreas Schicker, expressed excitement about Orban’s arrival, emphasizing the Nigerian’s speed and attacking versatility.

“In Gift Orban, we have found exactly the fast striker we were looking for. We are convinced that his skills will bring greater variety and dynamism to our attack,” Schicker said.

The move is expected to provide Hoffenheim’s frontline with additional depth and agility as they look to strengthen their campaign in the Bundesliga.
