Appeal Court affirms Yahaya Bello as Kogi state governor
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed the election of Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello, after dismissing four appeals challenging his victory at the November 16, 2019 poll.
In a judgement delivered today July 4, the five-man panel of the court led by Justice Adamu Jauro dismissed the four appeals filed by four political parties for lacking in merit.
The appeals dismissed were filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the Action Peoples Party (APP), and the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP).
The appeal filed by the PDP along with its governorship candidate, Musa Wada, was the most keenly fought. Mr. Wada was penalized by the court and his appeal was also dismissed. He was ordered to pay a sum of N100,000 each to Governor Bello, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and INEC, who were listed as respondents in the appeal.
Justice Mohammed Shuaibu dismissed the four party’s appeal. He also affirmed the decision of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal which dismissed the petition filed by the APP and awarded a cost of N100,000 against the party.
The Court of Appeal held that the allegations of overcoming, multiple thumbprinting and results falsification were not proved by the appellants, hence the election of Governor Yahaya Bello was affirmed.
