Covid19: Lagos Government Threatens Total Lockdown Over Poor Adherence to Safety Measures.

3

His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has threatened to impose a second phase of total lockdown in the commercial city of Lagos if the occupants continue to violate the safety guidelines from the State and National Health Authorities to contain the spread of the virus in the state.

He asserted that the compliance with the use of facial mask and physical distancing directive had been highly compromised which has led to a steady increase in the number of Covid-19 cases within the state.

According to him, if no visible improvement was seen in the coming days, the State Government will be compelled to re-impose a total lockdown in the state.

“I’m aware that the Presidential Task Force has made this point and very importantly that the continued maintenance of this ease is only guaranteed when people consistently comply. Let the numbers we have seen this week stand as a warning to all of us because we are monitoring and checking this on a daily basis.

“We must all take responsibility, which is what this time demands of us. Government will not shy away from its own responsibilities”.

He also addressed the poor compliance of the safety guidelines in commercial banks and motor parks and expressed displeasure on the crowd that besieged bank premises and the sheer violation of the social distancing directive.

He reiterated that the level of compliance in open markets and stores in various parts of the state should be improved and sustained.

Lastly, he appreciated the front line health workers for their ceaseless efforts and sacrifices.
