Wale Ajetunmobi, the suspended Senior Special Assistant on Print Media to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has addressed his recent suspension following a controversial tweet.
The tweet, posted on November 23, alleged that arsonists who set the Television Continental (TVC) head office ablaze during the #EndSARS protests in 2020 were “hunted and executed.” The statement drew widespread criticism and led to his suspension.
Reacting to the suspension, Ajetunmobi took to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify his position:
“My only and final response to this misrepresentation… This excerpt was quoted out of context, and there were a series of comments made under the same post, which better explained what was intended.
“Like I further explained under the said tweet, no extra-judicial killing was insinuated. The word ‘executed’ was erroneously used and not intended in the context of that casual conversation.”
He further emphasized that the comments represented his personal opinion and not the official stance of any authority or his employer, adding:
“The post and other comments had been taken down, even before this publication.”
The suspension highlights the sensitivity surrounding public statements made by government officials, especially on issues as significant as the #EndSARS protests.
