Hundreds of residents, market women, and commercial tricycle operators in Warri and Effurun, Delta state, took to the streets on September 4 to protest the recent fuel price hike. The protesters, carrying various placards, marched through the streets, calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and reverse the fuel price increase.
The placards displayed messages such as “Tinubu, intervene now to alleviate commuters’ suffering” and “Tinubu, activate Warri and Kaduna refineries without further delay.” The protesters blocked major roads, expressing their discontent with the fuel price hike.
One protester lamented, “We are suffering in silence, the fuel price hike is a killer.” The situation has been exacerbated by the closure of most fuel stations in the area, with the few remaining ones selling fuel above N1,000 per liter.
The protest highlights the growing frustration among Nigerians over the fuel price hike, which has led to increased transportation costs and hardship for many citizens. The protesters are urging President Tinubu to take immediate action to address the situation and provide relief to commuters.
