Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been named as one of the final five nominees for the prestigious 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) unveiled the top five contenders in a tweet on Wednesday, December 4.

Nnadozie stands out as the sole Nigerian in the final selection, with Raheedat Ajibade, who was on the initial 10-player list, not making the cut. The remaining finalists include Malawi’s Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga, Zambia’s Barbara Banda, and Morocco’s Sanaâ Mssoudy.

In addition, Chris Danjuma, head coach of Nigeria’s Falconets, is among the nominees for CAF Women’s Coach of the Year, advancing past compatriots Bankole Olowookere (Flamingos) and Moses Adukwu (Edo Queens), who were included in the preliminary list.

The Nigerian Super Falcons are also in contention for the National Team of the Year, while Edo Queens have been nominated for the Club of the Year.

This year’s Women’s Player of the Year award guarantees a new champion, as Asisat Oshoala, who has claimed the title six times—including the last three editions—was not listed among the finalists. Oshoala’s absence marks the end of her dominance since 2018.

The winners will be announced at the CAF Awards ceremony, which celebrates the best in African football.
