Mr. Du Wei, the Chinese Ambassador to Israel has been found dead in his apartment north of Tel Aviv, an Israeli official told BBC News.
The official reported that Israeli Police Force had launched an investigation but initial findings suggested no handy-panky.
The 57-year old diplomat was only appointed ambassador in February having previously served as envoy to Ukraine.
An Israeli police spokesman told Reuters news agency: “As part of the regular procedure, police units are at the scene.”
Israel’s Channel 12 TV, quoting unnamed medical sources, said initial indications were that Mr Du had died in his sleep of natural causes.
He survived by his family, a wife and a son who were yet to join him in Isreal.
