Davido Criticizes Nigeria’s Democracy, Explains Kamala Harris Support
Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Davido has drawn attention to Nigeria’s political system, asserting that the country lacks true democracy. Speaking on The Morning Hustle podcast, he compared Nigeria’s governance with the United States, expressing admiration for the democratic principles in the U.S.
Davido revealed that during the U.S. elections, he cast his vote for Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party. Despite this, he congratulated Donald Trump upon his victory, emphasizing the importance of respecting electoral outcomes. “I congratulated Donald Trump. That’s the president! What are you talking about? Even if I was running against him, I would have done the same,” he stated.
Highlighting his reasons for supporting Harris, Davido said, “To be honest, I voted for Kamala Harris because I wanted to see the first female president in my generation. That would have been cool.”
Davido’s remarks sparked discussions online, with fans and commentators reflecting on his critique of Nigeria’s political system and his insights on governance. Many noted the contrast he drew between Nigeria and the U.S., underscoring his call for deeper democratic practices in his home country.
