Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration has joined forces with 16 traditional rulers in Lagos State to intensify advocacy against Gender-Based Violence (GBV). This initiative, spearheaded by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), is part of activities marking the 2024 16 Days of Activism to Eliminate Gender-Based Violence, which began on November 25.
Speaking at the launch at the Oniwaya Palace in Yaba, DSVA Executive Secretary, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, emphasized the importance of collaboration with traditional leaders to bridge gaps in awareness, reporting, and prevention of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence. The 16 kingdoms selected for the campaign were identified through data analysis, focusing on areas with high violence rates and low engagement.
In her address, Vivour-Adeniyi acknowledged support from the European Union’s Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption program and the International IDEA, highlighting their role in engaging and spotlighting traditional leaders for their efforts in the fight against GBV.
Oba Suleiman Owolabi Oloko, the Oniwaya of Iwaya Kingdom, praised the governor’s administration and partners for initiating the campaign in his kingdom, emphasizing the importance of this collective effort to combat GBV across the state.
